The “Van Gogh” table is made of solid thermally modified Himalayan cedar.
The composite tabletop is assembled from narrow slabs joined along a lively wavy seam line. The numerous knots and complex grain pattern resemble brushstrokes — which is why the table was named after the great artist.
The tabletop surface is brushed. During processing the soft fibers of the wood are removed, making the relief deeper and the natural pattern more expressive. The texture can be clearly felt to the touch, and the knots, shade transitions and wavy seam lines become an independent part of the composition.
The table is finished with a dark stain.
Himalayan cedar is valued for its lightness, expressive texture and characteristic woody fragrance. It is a lively wood, warm in color, that reveals itself beautifully after brushing and thermal modification.
Thermal modification changes the structure of the wood: it absorbs less moisture, becomes more stable and better withstands fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
Because the wood has been thermally modified, the table can be used not only indoors but also on a covered terrace, veranda or summer kitchen. For permanent outdoor placement, the surface must be protected with a special oil for exterior wood and the finish renewed periodically.
