The thick tabletop of thermally modified wood looks like a solid fragment of a trunk: wide at the base, it gradually narrows, preserving the natural silhouette of the tree.
The table's brutal look is built on a contrast of materials:
a massive tabletop 50 mm thick;
an expressive live edge;
a complex grain pattern and natural cracks;
a clear pour of Canadian EcoPoxy epoxy resin;
a strict black metal base of geometric shape.
Thermal modification at 160 C makes the wood more stable and brings out its deep natural shade. The cracks, voids and transitions in the solid wood are not hidden but turned into the main decorative elements. The clear resin keeps the wood structure visible and creates a contrast between the rough natural texture and the smooth glossy surface.
EcoPoxy is a professional epoxy system for woodworking and art projects. It is distinguished by high clarity, fills deep cavities well and, once cured, forms a strong smooth surface. EcoPoxy is the most eco-friendly epoxy resin, as it contains a significant share of plant-based components that replace traditional petrochemical raw materials.
The black metal base emphasizes the weight and monumentality of the tabletop, giving the structure a strict industrial character. The table will look natural in brutalist, loft, contemporary and modern classic interiors.
The surface is coated with hardwax oil, which emphasizes the magnolia pattern and protects the wood.
