Want a different size, wood or base?

We will make a similar piece to your size. The wood pattern will differ.

“Rhythm” is a tabletop from a solid elm (karagach) slab with a live edge, made at the Forestoff furniture factory in Sochi.

Its size allows it to be used for a dining table or writing desk, a work table or a small meeting table. You can buy just the tabletop or order a finished solid elm table with a suitable base.

Karagach — an elm with character
Karagach is one of the species of elm. It is a dense, hard and very tough wood capable of withstanding serious loads. Thanks to its interlocking fibers it resists splitting and wear well — it is no coincidence that karagach has long been used where special endurance was required of wood.
But for furniture, karagach is interesting above all for its beauty. It has no calm, predictable pattern. The fibers change direction, flow around knots, gather into waves and swirls. The shades are also uneven — from golden and honey to deep browns. On the large surface of a solid karagach slab, this complex texture reveals itself especially well.
This is a wood that hardly needs decoration: the pattern has already been created by nature.

This tabletop has especially expressive longitudinal lines. They converge and diverge, changing direction following the natural growth of the tree — and the whole pattern seems to be in motion. That is how the name “Rhythm” came about.

We have preserved the natural shape of the slab and the live edge. The width varies from 64 to 87 cm, so the tabletop does not look geometrically regular or mass-produced. This is a one-of-a-kind piece with this contour, knot placement and grain pattern.

Such a natural wood table does not go out of date with interior fashion. Solid wood can be restored and renewed, and over time it acquires its own history. This is furniture that you do not have to replace after a few years — it can stay in the home for a long time and become part of the family space.

The slab was dried by vacuum thermal modification at 160 C. This drying changes the structure of the wood: it absorbs much less moisture and acquires high dimensional stability and resistance to fungi, rot and insect damage. As a result, thermally modified wood is much less prone to warping.

The tabletop is finished with hardwax oil. It reveals the depth and contrast of the natural karagach pattern while preserving the natural texture of the wood. This finish can be renewed as needed.
