Black walnut heartwood is dark chocolate brown, sometimes with a purple cast; the sapwood is pale, and the contrast shows clearly on slabs. The figure is calm and occasionally wavy.
It is medium-hard, stable and a pleasure to machine and polish. Oil deepens the colour.
We use it for dining tables, desks, tabletops and centrepiece furniture.
