Cryptomeria japonica

A light softwood with a striking contrast between pinkish-red heartwood and pale sapwood.

Sugi has pinkish-red to brown heartwood and almost white sapwood, which gives slabs a striking two-tone look. The grain is straight and even.

It is light and soft, easy to work, but dents easily. It handles moisture well. In Japan it is traditionally charred for exterior cladding.

We use it for tables, interior and exterior cladding, wall panels and decor.
