The wood is light brown with a straw tint and darkens with age. Quarter-sawn boards show the characteristic silvery rays; flat-sawn boards show a bold, wavy figure.
Oak is hard and heavy and holds screws and joints well. It contains tannins, so it can stain dark when wet iron touches it — we choose fixings accordingly.
We use it for tables, tabletops, staircases and any furniture meant for heavy everyday use.
